PSA: You CAN swap your linked accounts on Ubisoft Connect (though only once!) - here's how it actually works

I've seen a few posts about this over the years but none of them clearly explained the full process, so here's my experience in case it helps someone.

The situation: I originally played Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox, but in 2020 I moved to Germany and bought a PS4 there. I created a German PSN account and linked it to my Ubisoft Connect. When I moved back to my home country, Brazil, I created a new local PSN account because PSN doesn't allow region transfers, but couldn't link it to Ubisoft Connect because my German PSN was already linked.

This meant I had to continue to use the German account to play R6 with all my stuff from back to 2017, even sharing my PS Plus from the brazilian account to be able to play online and couldn't buy any content using my local payment methods, and I had no way to buy stuff on the German account. Completely stuck.

What I wanted: Simply remove the linked German PSN on my existing Ubisoft Connect account, keeping all my progress, inventory, and history intact, and link my new Brazilian PSN instead.

The process:

I had tried this twice before, in 2020 and 2022, but gave up with the generic answers from support, although I didn't provide proving docs at the time. Third time was the charm, but because I presented a clear case.

  1. Open a support ticket at ubisoft.com/help explaining the situation clearly. Emphasize that: (a) you're not trying to move your progress to a new Ubisoft account, just swap which PSN is linked to the same account; (b) both PSN accounts belong to you; (c) It's a legitimate reason (Lost access or something), in my case it was a country/residence change. Provide all proof you have, logged in screens from the PSN, emails with purchases, I even provided my ID and German VISA (with sensitive info covered).
  2. The support agents will likely respond with a generic warning about losing progress. Don't be discouraged. Just clarify that your game progress is tied to your Ubisoft Connect account, not the PSN, so swapping the linked PSN won't cause any loss. Use their own words against them if needed, because at some point they will confirm this themselves.
  3. Once you confirm you understand the consequences and want to proceed, they will unlink your old PSN from your Ubisoft account.
  4. Before linking your new PSN, make sure it isn't already linked to any other Ubisoft account (even an old secondary account you forgot about). If it is, log into that secondary account and unlink it manually in Settings > Linked Accounts. In my case this resolved the "already linked to another user" error instantly.
  5. Link your new PSN to your Ubisoft Connect. Done.

Important notes:

  • Your game progress, inventory, and rank stay on your Ubisoft Connect account. The PSN is just a login method.
  • Ubisoft support can only do this once per Ubisoft account, so make sure your new PSN, or other account, is the one you want permanently linked.
  • Be patient and persistent. It took a few tickets and some back-and-forth to get past the scripted responses, but it's absolutely possible.

Hope this helps someone out there. The support team did come through in the end, and they were actually really fast, I opened this ticked on tuesday the 26th, and they already sent a reply the next day and fixed everything in that day.
