Any positive/easy colonoscopy stories?
I’ve had three colonoscopies in my life and all have been horrible, each one worse than the last. My last one was in 2023 and in my opinion, along with other factors, sent me into a 7-month long flare that resulted in me losing 20lbs, deep depression, hospitalizations, and dropping out of school temporarily. It’s the hardest and worst thing I’ve ever been through, and all I can think about is how I started vomiting when doing the prep and didn’t feel normal again for over half a year.
The problem is, I’m not doing great. My appetite has been decreasing for weeks to the point now where I can barely eat a few bites of food without feeling mild nausea or pain. It goes away quickly, but it really discourages me from eating, especially anything healthy that isn’t 100% carbs. But I know if I talk to my doctor they’ll want me to do a colonoscopy, so I’m looking for other people’s experiences.
Colonoscopies are a fact of life, even if I didn’t have crohns, and I’ve always known that I’d have to get another one eventually. I just hoped I’d had more time to recover mentally. (And yes I have a therapist but she’s on maternity leave rn so yay for alternative coping strategies).
So please share any experiences where the prep went super smooth, you had no adverse side effects, and maybe you even ended up glad you got the scope :) Thanks!
