AITA for refusing to give my “best friend” money and then blocking her?

So I (23F) had a “best friend” — let’s call her K — who basically fell off the face of the earth right after my birthday.
Like… poof. Silence.

She’d reply occasionally, but only with dry one‑word answers. She never asked to see me, never made plans, and every time I invited her out she suddenly had a migraine, family emergency, mysterious shift at work, or whatever excuse she could pull out of thin air.

But weirdly, she always accepted lifts to food places.
Not to hang out.
Not to talk.
Just:
“Can you take me to get food?”
“Can you drop me home?”
Then silence again.

Fast‑forward to her birthday.

She suddenly messages me, acting like we’ve been besties all year, and asks about her present.

I told her — politely — that I didn’t get one yet because:

• I’ve been drowning in college work
• I’m prepping for university
• She hasn’t spoken to me in months
• I genuinely didn’t know what she’d even want anymore

She exploded.
Full meltdown.
Accused me of “not caring”, “not trying”, “being selfish”, the works.

A week later — after ignoring me again — she pops up asking for money.

Not a loan.
Not a “can you help me out until payday”.
Just straight up:
“I need money.”

I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving money and that I’d think about it after I got paid.

She didn’t like that either.

Trying to be nice (apparently my first mistake)

She commented on Facebook about wanting a specific item, so I bought it for her as a late birthday present.

Her reaction?

Another explosion.

Apparently I “didn’t listen”, I “should’ve given her money instead”, and now she “has to ask another friend” because she needed the money to buy drinks for her home.

Not rent.
Not food.
Not an emergency.
Drinks.

I told her — again — that it’s not my responsibility to fund her lifestyle.

She didn’t like that either.

So I blocked her.

And THEN she went nuclear.

She jumped onto every social media account I have to:

• Harass me
• Demand money
• Call me petty
• Claim I “owed” her
• And demand I return a laptop she bought me for Christmas/my birthday

All because I wouldn’t hand over cash on command.

I told her she was trying to manipulate me, and I wasn’t entertaining it anymore.

So… AITA for refusing to give her money and blocking her?
