Should I become a high school teacher or guidance counselor?
I (25F) live in a big city in Sweden. I’ve already studied a bachelors in psychology and I am planning to continue my studies this fall. I’m not sure if I should study English to then become a high school psychology and English teacher or if I should study to become a guidance counselor. Both will be 3 years of studies starting this fall.
High school teacher feels more fun in a sense since I love both of the subjects and I will have a lot of job security and the summers off. Also I can probably find a position and only work 80% after a few years.
But I’m an introvert and highly sensitive, so I’m taking that into consideration too. So it feels like guidance counselor would suit my personality more since it’s a bit calmer and more 1-1 sessions with the students, and I do like helping students find their way.
So teaching feels more fun and is more of a stable job but I’m afraid it will be too overwhelming and overstimulating, guidance counselor feels calmer and more manageable but not as stimulating or in demand on the job market.
Which one should I choose?
TL;DR Should I study 3 years to become a high school teacher or a guidance counselor?
