(New Witch) Am I doing (something wrong with) chaos magic?

I am very new to witchcraft and have only ever done one spell (yesterday). I had intended to plan it first but i was setting up my alter and I just did it right there and then. I definitely think I lacked focus and was riddled with self doubt (perhaps meditation can help?). But the way I did the spell, is the way I write: no outlines or a plan, just a blank page and a pen or a keyboard. I also feel like I can't copy someone's spell off of the internet and somehow have to make it my own.
I have been gravitating towards witchcraft because of a tarot reading I had a few months ago. I just really connected with the person doing the reading for me. And I think she felt the connection too? She told me my spirit is way ahead of itself (is this my problem?). She also said maybe I'll be doing tarot readings one day.
Am I on the right path? What more/less should I be doing?
