18 in Ontario — Accord 2.0T Touring or BMW 340i M Sport as a long term first car?
I’m 17 from Ontario and looking to buy my first real car soon. I currently have around 60-70k CAD saved up (mostly from working/side hustles) and I’m trying to make the smartest decision long term while still enjoying the car.
Right now I’m deciding between:
Honda Accord 2.0T
BMW 340i
Budget is around 25-30k CAD total. I’d most likely pay cash, but I may finance a small amount if it helps get a better deal. I’m also looking for a part time job right now to help cover ongoing ownership costs.
The weird thing is that in Ontario, clean Accord 2.0 Tourings are honestly almost the same price as some 340i M Sports with similar kms. The Accord I want is specifically:
Black
Touring trim
preferably under 100k km
clean or very minor Carfax
But they’re pretty rare. The BMWs I’m looking at are mainly clean stock B58 340i M Sports around the same mileage range.
Important context:
insurance will probably end up being under my mom’s policy which would make both cars much more affordable monthly
I want to keep the car long term, not just 1 year
reliability and ownership costs matter to me
but I’m also a huge car enthusiast and want something fun
I live in Ontario so winter driving matters too
I’m not trying to go broke from repairs, but I can afford maintenance
I’d probably do light mods only (cosmetic/intake/etc)
