Anyone has experience with buckfast-ish (drone) and Carniolan (queen)-crosses?

I'm planning for grafting and have the possibility to try the combination by getting a piece of brood comb with larva from a friend (if the first attempt with my own stock has ok acceptance, it's the first year I'm trying grafting) that has Carniolans within reasonable distance to drive with the comb covered by a moist towel. It would be nice to have a yard with bees that might be more adapted to surprise earlier flows than expected, but preferably a bit less swarmy than pure Carniolan.

Queen that has stopped laying, without prior supersedure cells or turning into drone layer

The queen in question was on her last season anyways (a regicide occured, with a prompt brood-in-all-stages frames donation), but I was a bit flabbergasted that she had stopped laying entirely, even drone brood, the only brood in the entire hive (still ok bee numbers) was 2 patches of capped drone brood.

The one reason I can think of is that she could have been chilled in a quick inspection I did when I added a super.
