I’m a retired engineer from the U.S., and my wife is an EU citizen. We currently live in California and are thinking about spending about 6 months each year in Spain, mainly to enjoy the lifestyle and culture. We do not need to work.

I’ve been looking into visa options, and the non-lucrative (retirement) visa process from the U.S. seems pretty complicated and time-consuming.

Has anyone here done something similar, splitting time between the U.S. and Spain each year? Since my wife is an EU citizen, I’m also wondering if that changes the process for me in terms of residency or staying longer than 90 days.

Any advice on the simplest way to make this work, or things to watch out for, would be appreciated.
