Received our approval (wife is Swedish and we’re moving from America), and have fingerprints / photographs scheduled in Stockholm.
Wondering what tips / suggestions everyone may have for what comes next! Besides getting my personnummer and setting up banking etc, what are some other things to consider?
Hi! My wife (Swedish) has lived in the US since 2019 and has had ~70-90K worth of savings and funds in Sweden that have not been contributed to or sold since she moved from Sweden.
We are planning to move to Stockholm in a month so just talked with a tax consultant and found out about the PFIC rules, and we have not filed anything for any tax years 2019-2025 (filed in the us with turbo tax so my bad completely 😞).
Is streamlined domestic the best way to catch up, and should we do that before we move?
The other wrinkle is that she has an oath ceremony scheduled for end of the month, so we need to decide if she does or does not become a citizen with this new information in mind. We honestly made the mistake thinking it would be a nice to have if we ever needed to relocate back to the US in the future.
