Hey guys!

I’m currently travelling around Japan and have a lot of spare time, so I decided to give fishing a go.

Picked up a super cheap setup and I’ve been catching bluegill pretty easily. A local told me to try using them as live bait on a bigger hook, so I gave that a go.

I’ve tried hooking them through the back and through the mouth (stuff I saw on Instagram/YouTube), but every time I switch them over they seem to be dead by the time I’m ready to cast. I’ve probably tried 5 times now with the same result.

I read they’re an invasive species here so you’re meant to kill them anyway… but I’m not exactly doing it on purpose.

Couple of questions:

Are they dying because I’m too slow? It probably takes me around a minute to land it and switch it over

Where should I be casting live bait like this, and is there anything I should be doing to actually get a bite?

Any tips for a complete beginner would be massively appreciated.

Thanks 🙏

As the title asks, me and my girlfriend are travelling in a van across Japan and sometimes the weather is pretty bad and there’s not a lot to do, I already have a switch 2 and she wants to buy one so we can play together on rainy days, we can easily go to cafes or whatever for WiFi to download things, but the main question is can we play together in the same world when we’re in the middle of nowhere with no WiFi
