How do I make a complete career change?

I am a 26 year old female in the environmental science industry on the construction side. For the past two years I’ve grown to really hate and resent my job and the work I do.

I went to school for environmental science and I regret that decision because I wish I would’ve either stayed in education (what I originally went to school for) or done something in business or marketing. I hate the fieldwork aspect of my job and the impossible deadlines and little time to get anything done. My department is me and one other person and on a good day we are both swamped with work with little support.

Sometimes it feels like the work we do isn’t taken seriously by engineers in our office or they think that we have time to take on X amount of projects when we are struggling to meet deadlines. We are given new projects with fast approaching deadlines and with little regard to our work load. We try and be transparent about what we can/cannot take one but it seems like every incoming job is a priority. How am I supposed to prioritize my work when EVERY job is a priority??

I’ve officially reached burnout (about three weeks ago) and want to get a new job. I’m just not sure how to navigate making a complete 180 career change.

I have experience with Microsoft office, GIS, report writing and good communication skills and I want a job that doesn’t require field work (also doesn’t necessarily need to be related to what I do now).

What advice is out there for making a change like this? What things can I put on my resume that would be universal for other jobs in terms of experience and what chances do I have of getting let’s say a marketing job or something that is a desk job?
