Newbie and the process
I've been watching a lot of videos on how to start up tanning, and I can't wait to start. But I've noticed A LOT of different methods being applied to tanning the hides. But I feel like some are either skipping steps or I'm just not understanding some of the steps.
Fresh pelt. Salt then freeze? Or can it just go to the freezer?
Out of freezer. Stretch, flesh, then salt? Or can you just sun dry/dry with a low flame?
After salt/ ect. Do you pickle? Or is it not required? Do certain final products demand more or less of these steps at the end?
Storing after. Can it just be a dry place? I've seen climate control be important, but others do not care?
I'm certain there is a wash phase before or after step 1 on my list, as potentially after step 3? As well as needing to remove oils with oil absorbent materials somewhere around step 2 on this list?
If you've read this far and respond with your knowledge I'm ever grateful to you 🙏
