Apple TV Dolby Vision issue: Player Core 2.0 outputs HDR only, old core triggers DV but looks wrong

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure out a Dolby Vision issue with VidHub on Apple TV.

My setup:

  • Apple TV 4K connected directly to an LG OLED G5
  • Apple TV video settings: 4K SDR, Match Dynamic Range ON, Match Frame Rate ON
  • Dolby Vision works correctly in Apple TV+ on the same HDMI port
  • Infuse detects Dolby Vision correctly for some DV WEB-DL files not for remux
  • Tested sources in VidHub: TorBox WebDAV, Real-Debrid WebDAV, Jellyfin/local files

The issue:

With Player Core 2.0 enabled, VidHub does not trigger Dolby Vision. DV WEB-DL files and DV/HYBRID REMUX files are output as HDR only.

With Player Core 2.0 disabled, Dolby Vision is triggered again, even for DV/HYBRID REMUX files. However, the image quality looks wrong. In dark scenes, black areas become grey/noisy, there is visible pixel activity in near-black areas, and transitions from bright elements into black look worse.

When I bought this app some months ago, evrything worked just perfect, all my DV files were recognised whether Remux or WEB-DL and I had a great picture quality ( Player 2.0) and I couldnt see any difference to Infuse, now something changed unfortunately.

So it seems like:

  • Player Core 2.0 does not pass Dolby Vision output to tvOS correctly.
  • The old player core triggers Dolby Vision, but the output/tone mapping seems incorrect, especially in near-black scenes.
  • This is not caused by TorBox/WebDAV, because it also happens with Real-Debrid and local/Jellyfin playback.
  • This is not an HDMI/TV issue, because Apple TV+ outputs Dolby Vision correctly.

Has anyone else seen this behavior on Apple TV?

Is Player Core 2.0 supposed to support Dolby Vision Profile 5/8 WEB-DLs and Profile 7/HYBRID REMUX files? And is the old core maybe only forcing a Dolby Vision output mode without mapping the DV metadata correctly?

Any help or confirmation would be appreciated.
