Teaching Fellow Job Application - Does anyone have and advice
Hi all,
I appreciate this might not be 100% the right place to post this, but if anyone has any feedback or guidance, I would be grateful.
I have just completed an MRes which I absoloutely loved doing and would like to try and do a PhD to further my research. Before this I worked in TV production for a decade after getting my BA in Journalism.
As I mentioned I would like to change career paths to something in academia. I have just been invited to interview for a teaching fellow position for an undergraduate Journalism course at a UK university. I don't have any teaching experience, so I thought I might post here to get some advice.
As part of the interview, I’ve been asked to prepare a 60-second MicroTeach video aimed at Level 4/ First Year Undergraduate students, introducing one key aspect of Digital Journalism (this is to be recorded and sent before the interview).
I also need to give a 5-minute talk for Level 6 students explaining my specialist interest and why they should study it.
I appreciate that guidance can't be given on my special interest, but does anyone have any advice on how best to go about these tasks? Especially when adapting content to the different academic levels?
What is the best way to go about doing the MicroTeach video? I have never made one of these before. If anyone has any general advice, I would appreciate it!
Any tips or common interview questions or anything else I should take into consideration?
Honestly I'm over the moon at getting offered an interview and I want to do the best I can. Thanks!
