Career decision at 40

Background: I've worked as a medical billing clerk for the past 5 years. Associate's degree in health information management.

Goals: I want a lucrative career path in which I have an aptitude and one that offers stability, flexibility, and steady growth.

Situation: The decision I have is whether to further my current career by obtaining credentials in medical coding and compliance, or to get my BA in accountancy and gain a CPA.

There is a financial investment involved with both choices, including immediate out of pocket costs and student loans (for BA), which would both come out to ~$5,000. The health information path is the more practical choice, but Accountancy is appealing to me, and offers more possibilities I think.
