Brevo automation quetsion

Hi everyone,

I'm setting up my first automation workflow in Brevo for a B2B cold email campaign and I'd really appreciate some advice before I launch.

I imported a database from another tool and created an automation. I have a few questions:

  1. When importing contacts, what is the best trigger to use? I'm currently thinking of "Contact added to a list," but I'm not sure if that's the correct approach.
  2. For unsubscribe links:
    • Do I need to manually add an unsubscribe button/link, or does Brevo handle this automatically?
    • If someone unsubscribes, will Brevo automatically prevent them from receiving future emails in the automation, or do I need to add a condition/trigger myself?
  3. My personalization variables sometimes work and sometimes don't. What are the most common causes of this? Incorrect field mapping? Missing values? Something else?
  4. When testing the workflow, I activate it and then add my own test email addresses to the list. Sometimes the emails send and sometimes they don't. What are the most common reasons for this behavior?
  5. I'm using the Basic template because the emails are intended to look like personal B2B outreach rather than marketing emails. Is that the right choice, or should I be using the drag-and-drop template instead?
  6. The thing that's confusing me the most: I added an unsubscribe link using Brevo's personalization/tag options, but when I send test emails, the unsubscribe link seems to disappear completely. I never created a subscription form or subscription page, so I'm wondering if that's related.

Has anyone experienced this? Are there any common mistakes I should check before launching?
