Ex put my name on a debt consolidation loan without my permission

My ex and I broke up in 2021. Back then, he co-signed student loans for me. Ever since, I have been the only person to pay on these loans.

Today, I receive an email from him saying that he was applying for debt consolidation and that the only way he would get approved was to add my student loans onto it, that it would not be a “freebie” and that I would need to pay him back. He said in order to complete the application that I would need to give him the last 4 of my social. Obviously, this made me feel very weird. First, I felt like he was telling me rather than asking me. Second, I’ve been paying on these loans, not him. I said that I needed to talk to him before any of this got pushed through.

My best friend thought this was weird too and suggested I call the debt consolidation people. Well, I did.

Turns out, my loans did NOT need to be part of this and, according to the agent, my ex made it seem like he had been paying my loans and that he was going to take on all my debt. Wrong. Additionally, the agent told me that I was a co-applicant. I never agreed to any of this. In fact, we have not spoken in over 4 years, probably more. It sounds like he signed my name on this. Lastly, he was going to do this and let it impact my score without telling me. His application was approved on the 19th, and I did not hear anything about it until today.

Do I have any recourse here? I am going to remove my loans from this, but can he come after me legally for doing so? Is there anything I can do for him filing a false application on my behalf?

Ex wanting to do debt consolidation

I haven’t talked to my ex in almost 5 years. Years ago, he co-signed a student loan for me before we broke up. I’ve been paying on it since. I can’t remove him as a co-signer since I didn’t end up completing the degree, but I’ve been paying them on my own.

Today he sends me an email saying that he is doing debt consolidation and that in order to do that they need to include my student loans so I need to figure out a reimbursement plan to him.

Obviously, I don’t want to pay him. I can’t trust him with that money. Even so, I was fine paying my loans through the loan borrower. I have a phone call with him, but what the heck do I do?

It also sounds like he already went through with it, so it seemed like he was just letting me know.

Help!

UPDATE:

So turns out that he did NOT need to have my loans on there, that he lied saying he was paying on yk, and that he signed my name as a co-applicant to his debt consolidation. I am shocked. I called the debt consolidation people to get more information and to see if I could pay through them. Turns out, he reached out to me today but his application was approved over a week ago. I was told my loans absolutely do NOT need to be on there and to have them on there would cause a hit to my credit. Do I have any recourse here?
