It was never in doubt
Look at Rick's face when Evil Morty is monologuing. Then look at it after the sirens start going off. Rick knew exactly what he was doing when he showed Evil Morty some time travel tech. He knew that Evil Morty wouldn't be able to resist making it for himself, and that he would use it as an ultimate weapon when he and Rick had their inevitable showdown.
The two of them were pretty evenly matched as far as tech and enhancements go, but Rick has been around for a lot longer than Evil Morty, and knew that there are some things you don't mess around with. EM is learning that lesson now.
