are rats always THIS messy ?

Hi, my girlfriend is going through exams rn and she needs a lot of sleep, now it's 1:24 in the morning and she's still dealing with a rat "problem" 2 of her 3 rats sneaked out of the cage she has, and when she was gone through the day they went IN the sofa, eating and going through the foam, now she had to cut through the sofa's part to find the last rat she had to recover. I just wanted to ask, since they are really young (a few months), are they gonna be like this there whole life, or do they become "better" after some time. also they are kinda scared of her, even before that happenned, will they get used to her, knowing she's the one taking care and feeding them, will they get used to her ?
