I finished watching The Mentalist
I started feeling empty as early as seasons 5 or 6, but after finishing season 7, I was struck by what I think is the most intense melancholy I've ever felt in my life. The most shameful thing is that this is just from the end of a far from great series, with tons of filler.
It's rather strange how deep Jane has become as a character, despite the show's format. When I was watching, I didn't even notice John's murder; at the time, it merely symbolized Jane's victory over his own dark side and the restoration of his self-respect. Now, remembering that clown act with the dove, I'm disappointed. It's embarrassing to even think about Lisbon; was anyone really indifferent to her?
