Fight over the Stanley Cup

I posted this on AITAH but figured I'd add a bit more...

My MIL has been acting a bit wonky the last few years. I really think it's bc she hasn't dealt with her father's death but I'm no mental health expert.

Example: She takes our 7 year old a lot over the weekend but then complains about him so much. He loves her to pieces so that's hard. But anyways, I said to her: hey, WE are all working on less yelling so if he asks you not to yell, please lower your voice. You yell, he yells. It's not conducive to anything letalone healthy.

She decided I'm a stuck up know it all and told my hubby I'm mean.

I have transkids. Her husband plays FOX News 24/7 plus radio stations that make fun of trans people. I've asked she not expose my child to it as he loves his big siblings very very much.

Etc. We are very different politically let's just say. I won't start a fight but I'll correct blatant misinformation.

This is the latest though and its so dumb...

I, 49F, am happily married to a 40M. Our family has been avid Golden Knights fans since the first season but I've always believed you support a team BECAUSE of its players, not in spite. My MIL and FIL who have always been sports fans think the opposite. Hubby typically agrees with me.

We have stepped away from the Knights as a family because of management treatment of players. Still paid attention. Still watched them win the Stanley Cup. Etc.

This year, I learned about the new goalie who was aquitted for sexual assault charges. I did my own research. I did not feel what happened aligns with our family values and we've simply... not followed the team.

Then the Cup happens and I learn a lot more almost unwillingly. I decide to post to my own Face wall why our family isn't following. I just state facts. People tell me thank you- they never heard about this. They didn't understand why Canes fans were shouting 'no means no' or why Hart was being protected during interviews. I said do your own research but this is what I found.

A few days later, we are in the finals for the Cup and I post about how there was syatemic failure on multiple levels for accountability and some sort of... making amends. Starting with the NHL, down to team management down to Hart. This is again on my own page.

My MIL, 60 plus, suddenly attacks me while we are at Legoland for my kid's birthday on my own page and starts with "Are you trying to SHAME US for following our own team? Are we not allowed to support them? The girl asked for it etc etc."

I replied that this was my own page and I was simply discussing an issue at hand with other hockey fans. If she didn't like it, don't reply.

Then I get a "You're just ALWAYS RIGHT."

Then my MIL makes a long post about how she was SA and therefore she is the expert on all SA.

I deactivated my page. I sent her a detailed text after a few days stating that she decided to attack me on my own page and until I get an apology, I will not be interacting with her shenanigans. I never set boundaries. I am trying to.

AITAH for not supporting the Knights?

So AITAH for not supporting a team that might have a SA offender on it and AITAH for discussing it on my own page? Hubby thinks I might be the asshole for posting twice about it. I think I'm not an asshole bc this stuff matters in 2025 (its 2026, yall. I've had chemo and PTSD. I don't always get things 110% right) and we need clear ideas about consentual activity vs nonconsentual. My MIL obviously thinks I'm an AH.

AITAH?
