My little sister really wanted a pair of embroidered Converses, she made that very clear by squeaking very loudly at each and every pair she saw on my Pinterest feed. Problem is, they cost a fortune, a fortune that I do not currently have. So, I decided to embroider them for her birthday, which made me understand the pricing point. It takes a LONG time.
These took me about 2 whole weeks and a half (3 audiobooks of time) to make, that is, excluding the design, brainstorming and staring at the shoe for no reason time, I did speed through it so I can get them done by the birthday. Once I finished the first shoe and felt a sense of accomplishment, THERE WAS A WHOLE OTHER SHOE TO EMBROIDER (frustration).
Now, the design: my sister is in the fairy, witchy, axelotol, capibara phase and I suck at embroidering anything with a face, so I planned on just making some cute plants to fit the vibes. After I had already finished the first shoe, my sister said "when I learn how to embroider like you, I'm going to put an axelotol on my converses." This, was not part of the plan, I took a day off embroidering to stare at the shoe and figure out how to implement an axelotol, given that they swim, I couldn't just plop it between plants. After mutiple scrapped designs, I ended up just putting it in a vine-ish circle with the same plants from the first shoe to make sure look like a matching pair. I de-faced that axelotol so many times! But it ended up looking somewhat cute in the end. I'm quite happy with the end results.
When I gave them to my sister, she was in awe, she couldn't believe they were for her, she made a very loud squeak of joy and had some happy tears. Seeing her react like that was just lovely, really it was all I could have ever wished for.
