My husband and I recently (a month ago) caught a young cat that was living in our barn all winter. I thought he was feral but must have had some contact with people because he wants petted and uses the litterbox. When we trapped him, he was an intact male with worms and covered in ticks. We have since addressed these issues but the poor guy ended up with an abscess after the procedure. He's now had that lanced and is on medication. My question is-- he is SUPER fixated on hands. He has bitten both of us and gets very demanding about things and will swat us. I've been working with him a lot-- trying to clicker train him and give him positive reinforcement. We seemed to make some progress but that has stalled since he got the abscess probably due to wearing the cone and being on meds. I'm concerned that he is not going to get over this behavior. We have him in a private room away from our other cats. We did this to assure he was healthy and to give him time to heal after his neutering. Our others cats are very shy. We had to rehome another male we brought home because our females hid under the bed for 3 months. (yes-- we worked with a behaviorist to no avail) . My concern is that if we cannot keep him, he will be unadoptable due to his biting and scratching. I certainly would not be comfortable giving his to anyone with children! We think he is about 1-2 years old. Any help appreciated.
