Hi everyone! We recently moved in to our dream house and I couldn’t be more excited to design, but the floors are throwing me.
It’s a rental so we can’t paint walls or change the floors.
Ignore the current furniture, it’s just a temporary stand in.
I’d love input on the following:
- layout for a living room of this size
- how to deal with the living room floor color. How do I tie the yellowy cream walls with the grey/brown floors?
- carpet. I’ve never had carpet so I’m at a loss. Can I put rugs on top of carpet? I have 6 rooms all covered in the same blue/grey carpet so I have to find a way to differentiate.
- how can I make a room feel like an office with the same carpet as the bedrooms?
EDIT, adding the dining room (pictures in comments) and additional context:
For dining room: colors are again throwing me off, as is the size of the space (14.5 ft long). Husband is very against a rug here. What color wood should the table be? How can we fill it?
Context:
- it’s a Georgian townhouse in Ireland, and I want to lean into the traditional style
- No kids (yet!), just my husband, dog and I. Will have a lot of friends and family visiting so need space for more
- Budget plays a big role, but we’ve been able to find great affordable antique auction houses and can try to thrift as much as possible
- very important to feel comfortable in the living room, but we don’t necessarily need it to be super multipurpose because we have 6 bedrooms lol
- finally, I know this is insane for 2 people, but we got an amazing deal in our dream area and couldn’t pass it up!
Thanks in advance.
