Opinion on American Idol and The Voice

I'm a diehard music fan and a vocalist myself, and I can never bring myself to watch these competition shows. One quip of mine is how the crowd is directed and managed like your standard sitcom with cues and everything. A lot of the songs these contestants sing are almost always random b-sides that sound almost strategically designed for that one big wow note or powerful chorus. And whenever they do attempt to sing a popular song, they decide to "make it their own" which honestly strips the soul out of the song entirely. There's very rarely any rasp or edge that separates the good from the legendary. These shows go for a very polished, producer-friendly sound which is fine to an extent, but I feel like being able to pull off rawness and imperfection is something that should attested to. And don't even get me started when these guys bring a guitar on stage - it's pretty much a prop they use. They put a capo on the first or second fret and flip between the E major and minor chords throughout the entire song. I also believe Jordan should've absolutely beat Hannah. Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

Buck Dharma - Blue Oyster Cult - just listen to his solos. Take Me Away, etc. This man is a legend who never gets enough credit.

Daron Malakian - System of a Down - this man is chaos incarnate. How one can play something like B.Y.O.B. and scream at the same time in beat blows my mind. His solo in Lonely Day is very underrated.

Kim Thayil - Soundgarden - lead guitarist of one of the big four grunge bands. His solos are incredibly underrated. His work in Black Hole Sun is so melodic and dreamscape-like it feels like not many guitarists could replicate that same feel.

Joey Santiago - Pixies - pioneered the quiet-loud-quiet dynamic which directly inspired Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, and other popular grunge acts. Cobain said it himself he was trying to rip off the Pixies with Smells Like Teen Spirit. Santiago's riff in Where Is My Mind? is so minimal but so haunting at the same time. Mr. Grieves is another song where he really shines.

It's tough to choose between all 4 of these guys to be honest.

I'm rather new to guitar but if I'm not mistaken...isn't the point of rock sloppiness, or rather "controlled chaos" for lack of a better word? I mean yeah certain guys are less technically precise than others but that doesn't make them a bad guitarist per se. Anyone can play something somebody already wrote with as much technical efficiency and skill as possible. The real question is can you write something out of literally nothing while under the pressure of filling out an album and quite frankly making money (at the end of the day it's a job don't forget), commit to what you wrote, and make it a hit? What is really the definition of "sloppy" guitar playing?

Chris Cornell - Soundgarden, Audioslave - one of the biggest vocal ranges in rock at nearly four octaves. Wrote one of the biggest songs of the 90s (circa Black Hole Sun) and has delivered some of the most bone-chilling vocal performances in history. Can go from low, brooding verses to growling and belting in choruses in about 0.4 seconds. Even Chester said he had the most beautiful voice in rock.

Serj Tankian - System of a Down - this man is like three different frontmen at once. Can go from fast-paced talking style to growls and screams to operatic and theatrical belts sometimes all in the same breath. Truly one of a kind. Near four-octave range. One of the best screamers in history.

Chester Bennington - Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots - also was one of the best screamers in history. He's one of the few people who could make a voice crack sound beautiful.

Corey Taylor - Slipknot - very similar to Serj in the fact that he pretty much contains multitudes. Can go from whispering to screaming to singing beautifully very quickly.

I feel like I have to go with either Cornell or Serj here.

He isn't a shredder by any means but I feel like not being a shredder doesn't automatically make you overrated or someone not worthy of a high status. The Edge was a pioneer in rock guitar and changed the instrument. He didn't play for ego or try to fill every gap with a note for the hell of it like shredders do (again, that isn't a bad thing, but this is a different category we're talking about). I mean he revolutionized delay, negative space, reverb, the pedalboard, he's one of the most influential guitarists of the last 40 years. Yet he gets so much slack for being too minimal, overrated (so does U2 as a whole), and not, I guess flashy enough?

I'm no coder. My hardware isn't exactly cut out for running any game engines given I have a 7-year-old desktop, but I'm more of a creative mind. I have an idea for a baseball sim. The market for these is quite limited. Preferably, I would prefer it if someone could do this in UE5. Right now I just need a developer or someone who knows how to code baseball physics. Let me know if you're interested. Let’s be honest - MLB The Show is the worst sports game graphically and honestly gameplay-wise as well. It’s one big pre-determined math equation with practically zero physics. If someone went to UE5 and used all of its features to its advantage, you could have a game nearly indecipherable from real life. We could have a franchise mode similar to 2K’s MyNBA Eras, except instead of unlicensed players, we create a feature in Create-a-Player where the user can create a player with pre-played and fully customizable stats so they can fill in the gaps for those we can’t license. We could have truly realistic animations where no two players swing or move the same way, real-time physics, collisions, extremely better graphics, smoother gameplay, a more baseball-y feel unlike any other.
