Overwhelmed and could really use help!
I feel like I am getting close to the finish line but I am getting more and more concerned that I will screw something up. I just need help figuring out if I am eligible for JS and what documents I need (I am pretty far along so its less of an ask than it seems). I have an appointment for late December, 2026.
I am pretty sure I am eligible. GF (Born in Italy, never naturalized)>Mom (Born in USA, never got another citizenship)> Me (born in USA, also never got another citizenship). Is there anything I am missing here? It seems cut and dry. I am eligible, right?
I already have a lot of documents but the phrasing on the Miami consulate's website is confusing. I have: nonno + nonna's birth and marriage certificates, my nonno's death certificate, CONE confirming he did not have citizenship in the USA, my mom and dad's birth, marriage, and divorce certificates, and my birth certificate and driver's license. I have none of it translated or apostilled. Do I need anything in addition to this and what needs to be translated and apostilled?
Based on this page: https://consmiami.esteri.it/en/servizi-consolari-e-visti/foreign-citizen-services/1470-2/italian-citizenship-by-descent-jure-sanguinis/
"all documents must be originals and duly legalized (i.e., apostilled or authenticated) if issued outside of this consular district or outside the U.S"
So any documents issued in Florida (parents marriage certificate etc.) only need to be translated? Does outside of U.S. include Italy? I would assume not.
Also, what is an "official Italian translation"? Is this where I get something translated through the American Translators Association and then get it verified by the consulate (maybe I am misremembering who verifies it)?
Related question, the Miami consulate says I need to fill out all 4 application forms, but the "Declaration of Living Italian Ascendant" and the declaration for a deceased Italian ascendant born outside of Italy aren't relevant to me, so do I just not bring them? If so, why does it say to bring all 4?
Final add-on question, if my adult sibling also wants to acquire citizenship, can we just fill out another form 1 and 2 along with having their proof of residence + birth certificate (they would also be there obviously)?
Can you tell this wasn't written with AI lol. Sorry if I am being presumptuous by asking too many questions! Hopefully if these questions can get answered it could help someone else too.
