I’ve spent time looking for a KC registered puppy & found a breeder advertising on the official KC website. I wanted a standard poodle because I have an autistic son & want to eventually train my dog to be a service dog for him. This just adds to my upset as I really don’t have the money to be spending, I’m a single mum.

The breeder knew this. When picking my puppy up, he was underweight, very very small but she ASSURED ME over text and in person that he was a standard poodle, just the runt, confirmed he’s vet checked etc, she even gave me KC papers.

I took him to the vet the next day as I was extremely concerned. He’s meant to be 12 weeks, his teeth according to the vet are that of a 11-12 week puppy, he weighs only 1.6kg & is VERY tiny, I know this isn’t standard, but toy. Vet said he’s underweight & has a potential arrhythmia, but is relatively healthy otherwise, just obviously not a standard.

The vet checked the KC papers and said they’re official, I checked myself and they’re official, in ALL his 5 gens back he’s meant to be a standard poodle, some even show dogs. I’ve registered him in my name too under the Kennel club.

I’m so lost, hurt, angry & confused. The rest of the litter were also small, but no way near as small as him, with big paws. The breeder continues to assure me that I was not misled in any way & that he is a standard. I just don’t know what to do.

When bringing him home, I had to cut matting out of his fur that was full of poo, the house was filthy and like I’ve said, he’s deemed underweight, you can feel his hips and ribs completely.
