I’m trying to figure out what careers/companies actually provide a realistic work-from-home balance for moms long term — not just “remote” on paper.

I have a bachelor’s in Accounting, a master’s in HR, and currently work in public accounting. I need something stable and secure enough to support my family, but I also need flexibility. Ideally I’d be able to:

  • pick my kids up from school around 2pm
  • attend school functions without feeling guilty
  • potentially have my youngest home with me sometimes
  • still maintain a solid career and income growth

I see a lot of remote jobs posted by large companies, but I’m wondering what people’s real experiences have been. Are these jobs actually flexible, or are they high-pressure environments where you’re expected to always be online? How secure are these jobs really?

I’m also nervous seeing so many companies push return-to-office lately. Are people seeing truly remote jobs disappear or turn hybrid after being hired?

For those who have found a good balance:

  • What do you do?
  • What industry are you in?
  • Is it genuinely family-friendly?
  • Do you feel secure in your role?
  • Would you recommend accounting/HR-related remote work right now?

I’d especially love hearing from working moms who have found something sustainable long term.
