Portuguese naturalisation checklist and timeline (5 years)

Hey everyone, I recently submitted my Portuguese naturalisation application after 5 years here. I moved in October 2020, got CRUE first, and kept track of the residency clock.

Because the process and nationality law changes can feel confusing, I put together what I wish I had known:

Checklist highlights:

  • CRUE and why your first residence document matters
  • Residency clock rules and current nationality law changes
  • CIPLE A2 language exam experience
  • Criminal record certificates, apostilles, translations
  • Lawyer vs DIY, my lawyer cost was about 2000 euro
  • Digital submission and the long tracking code wait (mine took about 5 months)
  • IRN tracker stages and how to interpret them
  • Total costs and practical tips

If you want the full breakdown, I shared it here: https://youtu.be/m9kPZtEEHG4

Happy to answer questions or clarify anything so people can get their applications in ASAP.

5 year Portuguese naturalisation checklist, costs and timeline

Hi all, I just hit the 5 year mark and submitted my Portuguese naturalisation application, so I wanted to share what mattered most for me.

My timeline

  • Moved to Portugal: Oct 2020
  • First residence document (CRUE) was key for the residency clock
  • Tracking code took a while to arrive (mine was about 5 months)
  • IRN tracker stages went through em analise and para decisao

Documents and costs

  • CIPLE A2 Portuguese exam
  • Criminal record certificates, apostilles and translations
  • Fees add up fast; I went through a lawyer and it was around €2k plus translations and other costs

If anyone wants the full breakdown, I shared the whole experience (link in the first comment).

Happy to answer questions or compare timelines.
