Hello everyone, DMC fans. The other day I completed DMC5 with Vergil on SOS difficulty, and in the last three levels things got incredibly difficult, and I used a good number of gold orbs (I used quite a few throughout the game, but particularly in those last three levels). So I finished the game, but I wasn't entirely satisfied because I hadn't beaten it because I was actually skilled enough, but rather because I had enough gold orbs to revive repeatedly. And then I thought, am I cheating? Doesn't my victory count if I used gold or red orbs to revive? Plus, I remembered a line from the song "Devils Never Cry" from DMC3 that says, "Steal a soul for a second chance, but you will never become a man," which reinforced my feeling that completing it that way wasn't worthwhile. Then I looked at some posts on this subreddit to see what the community thought, and I realized that many people treated using gold orbs as outright cheating and something that shouldn't be done.
So, is it wrong? Is using resurrections to make things easier for me cheating and completely invalidate my achievements?
Well, no, it doesn't. Because at the end of the day, that's how the game was designed. DMC5 has a serious problem with the number of gold orbs you get, because in the end (especially on higher difficulties), it doesn't matter how good you are, but rather how many gold or red orbs you have. But that's a problem with the game. I shouldn't feel bad about taking advantage of the resources and mechanics a game offers to make the experience easier, because at the end of the day, that's the design the developers decided to give the game, for better or for worse. The moment a game relies on external rules self-imposed by a group of players, you know there's a problem.
And yes, I admit that completing any DMC without using any resurrections is more impressive, but that doesn't mean other people's achievements should be invalidated just because they didn't play the way you did. For me, as long as they're not abusing any dirty tricks or bugs, it's perfectly fine.
I don't mean to insult or attack people who don't use gold gems at all. Everyone is free to play however they want because that's what video games are for: to be enjoyed. But having more merit for completing a (self-imposed) more difficult challenge doesn't mean that those who didn't play the way you did are cheaters or don't deserve recognition, as long as they didn't actually cheat (using dirty tricks or bugs). Using the mechanics the game itself offers is NOT CHEATING, and it shouldn't be diminished in any way.
If you've read it all, thank you for your attention, and I'd like to know what you think in the comments, as long as you're respectful with others.
