Need immediate advice - about to get tape ins

Hello! I am due to get tape ins this week. Today even, just whenever I want them in. Just need to go into the salon. I spent $600 on tape ins online and that has set me back a lot of money (not the issue I have here though).
Only now, after purchase and arrival of the tape ins, am I reading lots of online horror stories about how they have ruined and thinned natural hair, even after one use.
The whole reason why I wanted them was to leave my natural hair alone to grow and get strong, while using the extensions to hold the body and shape of my hair. I have fine/medium thickness of hair, it’s curly and red.
The hairdresser talked me into tapes, I was hesitant at first because I wanted the least amount of damage possible. She said there is no damage whatsoever. And now I’m seeing that there is. So I am pissed off she convinced me to buy them, and now I don’t even know whether to go through with the procedure.
No offence to the hairdresser, but she herself had thin damaged hair that you could tell she just has to tie up everyday because there’s nothing else that can be done with it.. she mentioned she has used tape ins a lot.
So what do I do?
I’m supposed to be improving my hair health, I’m trying to go through a healthy glowup to feel better about PPD. Taking care of my nails, going to dermatologist, eating healthy and working out etc. I don’t want this one decision to ruin everything.
Should I do it?
Should I just take the extensions, and figure out a way to put them in safetly myself? Like with Bobby pins even?

Thank you and sorry for legnth
