Looking for advice on if we should help our alcoholic nephew
Looking for advice/experience with taking in a family member who is an alcoholic. Basically our 30 yr old nephew called last week to tell us he needs a liver transplant due to his drinking. He found out yesterday he was not approved to be on the list until he is sober for a minimum of six months. He wants to come live with us as his roommate also has an issue with drinking.
My issues with this is he doesn't work and is extremely lazy. He basically spends his days video gaming and drinking. He lived with us roughly ten years ago and while he wasn't drinking then he refused to do anything for himself and we had to kick him out. I am worried about the toll of having him live with us will take on my family and our finances.
Has anyone had success with taking in a family member-getting and keeping them sober and for them to become a functioning member of society?
