My 15-month-old is unable to fall asleep independently or stay asleep in his own bed… and baby #2 is arriving in just a few weeks...
My son is 15 months old, and I’m expecting baby #2 in about a month. He doesn’t have his own bedroom yet, so his bed is currently in our room. Until he was around 10 months old, he slept well in his own bed, but after that we started bringing him into our bed because he seemed to feel safer there and since then, it has become the routine.
He’s unable to fall asleep independently. I used to rock him to sleep, but now I lie down beside him in our bed until he falls asleep, then transfer him to his own bed. The problem is that he wakes up again 1–2 hours later and cannot settle back to sleep in his bed. He needs me beside him in our bed to fall back asleep.
As a result, I can’t really do anything else in the evenings.
He is capable of sleeping through the night, but only if he falls asleep with me. I’m starting to feel anxious about how we’ll manage once baby #2 arrives, especially because he only wants me and refuses comfort from my husband.
His current sleep schedule is approximately 8:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Usually two naps but he only one his bedtime is between 7:30 and 8pm.
Our bedtime routine is usually calm music (Tonie box ), milk, cuddles in our bed, then lying down together until he falls asleep.
He has never been sleep trained.
I feel desperate...
