Reactive doggo
Hi everyone.
Joined this community to find fellow dog parents doing their best with dogs that aren’t the easiest. Willow has bitten three times in the past but the worst was September and a woman for the first time so ever since she is muzzled and on the lead. When walking with me and someone else she doesn’t resource guard me against humans but when one on one she resource guards me against humans hence the September bite. It’s a nervous bite form behind never head on but lunges if people within a two meter radius and moving towards us. Then with dogs it’s an automatic reaction in the brain not like with humans where she will look then look down etc. I took her to a busy little seaside town while on holiday because it was too hot to leave her in the caravan. She reacted to every dog but no human. This felt like a massive win even if we were with my mum on and off throughout the day. I felt like we achieved and did something because last holiday in October it was people too she was lunging towards.
Everyone keeps pointing out how she isn’t easy, how she isn’t normal and how it would be easier with a different dog. They are right but it isn’t easy to hear. I’ve had her three years she is six in September and a st Bernese mixed breed. Training is out the question due to a financial hit that we took last summer so I’m doing the best with what I can with walking her quieter times of the day crossing the road with a trigger sometimes I have to lift her and carry her past a dog if she refuses to move due to trying to get to the dog she is 48kg so not light. I guess I’m posting to see if anyone else ever feels like no matter what they do people around them point out the losses more than the wins with these dogs.
Thanks for reading my post:)
