Advice on moving from civil engineering to trades
I’m 26 now and have spent half of my twenties in an industry I consider soul crushing. As a Civil Engineer, I waste my life away behind a screen 50-60 hours a week for surprisingly low pay, and very little room to grow. Long story short, I want to get into a trade but am really struggling to get my foot in the door (like everyone else apparently).
When it comes to getting an apprenticeship, is there anything that would make me stand out, coming from an engineering background? I’m in Missoula MT, but can’t find any companies looking to hire without prior experience even for an apprenticeship. The closest experience outside of engineeing is I spent about 20hr/week overseeing utility installation during development of a data center I worked on (lasted about a year). Any help appreciated!
