Finally upgraded to a 5D Mark III with a 100mm F2 USM :)

After many years of using a 550D, and also sometimes using other cameras like the R6 and D850, I finally decided to upgrade to a 5D Mark III with just under 70k click. I also have a Tamron 24-70 F2.8 on the way.

These are some of the first shots I took. Really happy with the 100mm so far! It's close to an 85mm but with a little more reach.

I built a mineral display cabinet with LED lighting (I'm not a carpenter)

A few months back I started working on my own mineral display cabinet. While I have yet to find a place for it on the wall and completely fill it with some cool rocks, I wanted to share the completed build anyway.

I started out with very cheap scaffolding wood which was very rough and a bit crooked. It took me many hours with the belt sander and orbital sander before I could use it. I gradually built up the structure and only used wood glue (no screws). The sanding was definitely the most time consuming part, as well as waiting for the glue to dry after clamping stuff together.

I then carved out some grooves for the wiring, which wasn't too complicated. Just soldered two adjustable LED bars and attached them to some wago connectors.

My original idea was to use dark wood stain which is why I avoided screws, but that ended up looking really bad, so I went with lacquer. I also made some elevation for the second line of minerals, so they aren't blocked by what's in front. Hope you like it!

I recently got into bouldering and am really enjoying it so far. I rented shoes first, but decided to buy my own.

This first shoes I got from Beest Boulders (Netherlands) and while they appeared to fit, I very quickly got these little wounds on some of my small toes. It felt like my small toes were just getting folded in too much.

I returned them and luckily could try a bunch of other shoes. I have size EU46, which was quite hard to find also at other stores. I fitted 45.5 and 46 from a few brands, which was the largest size they had. I ended up with Sportiva Katana.

I went bouldering for about an hour but really felt like taking off the shoes every ten minutes. I keep hearing the shoes are supposed to be tight but my feet just feel squished. Are these shoes going to feel more comfortable over time? Or are they just still too small?

Edit: some images of the shoes compared to my feet, i don't know if that helps

I just found these cool post cards dated around 1890-1920 on the flea market today. I decided to do some high res scans.

The handwriting is a little hard for me to read even as a Dutch person. This is what I can make of it but I'm not entirely sure:

>Waarde Dr.
Adres Scheldestraat 134?

Which roughly translates into English:

>Dear Doctor,
After a long absence I am curious how you are doing.
I sometimes hear from you at your home, but otherwise nothing.
Write to me when you have the opportunity by postcard.
It would be a pleasure.
Address Scheldestraat 134?

Thanks again to the collector who had dozens of these! Now I feel bad I did not buy more. :o
