What's the deal with Chengdu immigration and stay permits?
From what I've read for many years, transferring jobs to another city is best done by getting a stay permit to bridge the gap between jobs. For some reason, Chengdu doesn't allow this.
When I was moving to a new job in Guangzhou two years ago, the people at Chengdu immigration would refuse to grant a stay permit, no matter who my school and I talked to. I had to go to Guangzhou to get one, which was surprisingly easy.
This time, I'm moving back to Chengdu and there's a new issue- if I get a stay permit in Guangzhou or anywhere, Chengdu is refusing to transfer it into a residence permit. I have to directly transfer my residence permit to my new job more than a month before my current job ends, which is a big pain.
Other people online have had similar issues, does anyone know what's up?
