Is the game harder because of ToT and/or game speed?

I normally just play without much thought on optimizing but win easily on sovereign. I switched to online speed (now to faster) and went to immortal. These AI guys are suddenly cracked af and go into modern range with 70 science score while also going above 1.5k culture just waiting for the required points to drop and start the countdown at the end of exploration or in the first half of modern.

Also there is no shot for me to get wonders if I don't optimize for it. Any science wonders are built before I even research the tech.

I think it's game speed tbh because it takes so much production off and let them crank out wonders in 2 turns. (Saw it multiple times while "contesting" the wonder aka building it for 1 turn while needing 4)

Any experts on that field? Or do I have to tunnel more into my win condition and neglect the rest of victory conditions? (but I need to defend no?)

Why would you make achievements harder to get

I just wanted to give "norman yoke" a try and saw that it takes like 5 minutes to do.

When I played it though... I needed to get 40 cultural acceptance for the decision to convert to english culture. AND you can't move your residence while you hold more than your domain limit. As all the guides I found just went "conquer - revoke - decision - win" So they basically made it take forever when it was a no brainer before. The cultural acceptance thing either wants you to give the titles to anglo-saxon leaders to get it in a reasonable time (which will not convert when you decide to go english) and revoking them which then basically gives you infinite rebellions or give them to your Norman vassals which will then lead to infinite rebellions I guess. All that while trying to keep the main character alive as it doesn't count as the achievement anymore when you die or did they patch that too?

I mean... it's time to go back to an earlier game version or just embrace the chaos huh?
