Now who is the best active player to not have won a Slam?
Zverev was the seemingly obvious answer as he was not only the best active player to win a slam but the best player ever to win a slam (some will argue Ferrer and Tsonga, that’s fine). So now who is the best active player to not win a slam?
I’m not going to include <21 year old players in this. I don’t think they’d come up as they’re not that accomplished yet anyways but Mensik, Fonseca, Jodar, and Tien will have to wait.
In my opinion it goes:
- Ruud
- Fritz
- FAA
- Shelton
- Rublev
Tsitsipas’s peak level warranted a shout but he’s no where near those levels today. He would need a massive career revival to get in the conversation. My guy Holger Rune has the talent, it’s just the question of whether he can recover from his Achilles and then whether he can be consistent on top of that. De Minaur, Musetti, and Tommy Paul would round out the Top 10 for me.
Provided that Sincaraz, Novak, Zverev, and the kids are around, I find it highly unlikely any of these guys would win a slam. If I had to rank in terms of likelihood:
Rune, Shelton, Fritz, FAA, and Ruud.
