I’ve been trying to plan better road / gravel rides recently and kept running into the same issue: Google Maps is still the easiest way to plan routes, but getting that into a usable GPX for my Garmin was way more painful than it should be.

I got annoyed enough that I hacked together a simple converter for myself so I can just plan in Google Maps and turn it into a GPX in one step.

It works for what I need, but I'm curious how others here are handling this? Are you using Komoot / Strava route builder instead, or sticking with GPX tools?

I kept running into annoying satnav issues when planning off-road rides. I still think Google Maps is the gold standard for road routes, so I built a simple tool to convert those routes to GPX files with one click.

Appreciate Google Maps isn't always the best for trails, but I integrated the gpx.studio platform so it's easy to modify the route if you want to get more granular.

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback from anyone here who uses GPX for trails — especially if something doesn’t work as expected.

It’s free, no login, just something I'm honing over time. Eventually, I'd love to have a database of trails all over the world.
