6 months rule on a WHV (417)

Hello my friends on the other side of the world.

I (25M) from UK, am relocating Aus in October. I have applied for loads of jobs in Perth, Melbourne, and Gold Coast.

For reference, im a fully qualified quantity surveyor with 2.5 years experience, and I am so excited to move! Long shot… but if there are any QS’ here who are aware of open jobs - hit me up! I have a WHV 417 fully approved.

But my question is, the ‘6 month employment’ rule - I hear this doesn’t apply in the North of Aus. However, say if I were to theoretically get a job in Melbourne say, would employers even look at me? Or would they think ‘we can only have him for 6 months anyway’ and just ignore my application?

Are there ways around this? Exemptions (because I’m in construction which is a critical industry I believe)? Loopholes?

A fear of mine is that I will not be able to land a role as I will need a different job after 6 months. So, please, from experience or just knowledge, can anyone shed light on the truth here for me?

Short hand version (if you don’t want to read all of that above):

“Am I still employable in construction even if I need to change employer after 6 months. Are there ways around it?”

I have raised a few queries in this sub before and the responses have been great so thank you for helping me achieve my goal of getting to Aus.

See you soon.

PS2 slim grey

Hi guys, my PS2 slim (can’t remember what model but I live in UK) I am having trouble with it.

I got the urge to play GTA vice city stories as I used to love it on PSP. I found my PS2 in the loft yesterday and it had vice city stories in! I thought this was fate.

However, when I turn the ps on, it works and I get audio but no visuals. Just a black screen.

I saw a YouTube video about a code you can press to get the screen back, but it hasn’t been working.

I’ve bought a new lead (yellow/white/red) sorry I’m not the best at tech, but it’s the equivalent of the scart lead that came with the ps.

I just get a ‘no signal’ though and not sure how to get the screen working.

Has anyone got a fix to this?? I would be so very grateful.

Thank you.

Hi all, I hope you are all well!

I live in the UK currently. I’m a 26 year old man, currently working as a quantity surveyor.

The reason, or one of the reasons, I went into this lie of work is the worldwide travel and opportunities it offers.

After a few months of deliberation, I’ve decided I’m definitely moving to Aus, I just don’t know where yet.

I’m hoping people can help me out?
My criteria is:
- good social/nightlife to give me the chance to meet many people as I’ll be going alone, and to party and have fun
- good construction job opportunities to apply for QS/contract admin roles.
- not crazy expensive. I know the country is expensive as a whole but I can’t afford Sydney prices (I’m going without a job and I will have 20-25k AUD - planning to come in September)
- weather to be nice of course it’ll be nicer than the UK Lol, but honestly, I don’t really mind about weather as I’m fair skinned and 20 degrees does me nicely.

I know one can not achieve all of these in one move, but where do you think is best given the criteria?
I’m thinking Melbourne or Brisbane - but what do I know?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :)
