This is Westwood - I'm looking for advice on progression

I've reached 15k pop and built some cool districts i'm mostly happy with. Road hierarchy has been a focus for this city because in previous ones ive boxed myself in and traffic with TM:PE became overwhelming. At this point i'm not sure where to continue - I need more population to continue unlocking services but my roads all seem to follow the same pattern - branch a collector off an arterial roundabout then do curvy local roads for residential. I've tried something a little different to the left of Washington Park by trying to emulate a spread out mid-west USA suburbia but i couldn't resist building a big loop around the outside of it which becomes difficult to connect back to bigger roads. I enjoy the traffic management and junction building though i want some advice on being more *creative* with road layout to avoid repeating the same thing.

Robin Heights is the newest area i decided would be high density residential on high value land with immediate access to all education levels. Dense commercial created so much noise i was forced to move it just outside forcing slip-roads-on-slip-roads and a funky pedestrian bridge over the roundabout to get them off the damn crossings. The area is accessible from a partially underground trumpet interchange; trucks, garbage, and busses can access the town from the tunnel near the university.

I didn't expect the cargo train to generate so much traffic so i'm patiently waiting for the nearby landfill to empty to re-design its access.
I have 8 bus lines servicing over 900 passengers a week. Is public transport ever profitable?

Magnolia "The Egg" Hills - starting town for unlocks
Fairview Park - generic industry
Rosewood District - oil industry with supporting cargo train terminal
Autumn Heights - low density residential sprawl
Briarwood Hills - low density commercial area with high school and bus terminal
Washington Park - agricultural industry
Robin Heights - high density residential, commercial, university, few offices

Where should i go from here?

Bonus question: Why do level 2 offices only generate $10-15?

Extending granny cable with type 2 cable?

Driving the SX2 if that's relevant.

I'm wondering if it's safe to use the type 2 cable that comes with the car on the end of the granny cable as an extension?

I've checked they physically fit together but as they don't lock together I doubt this is an intended use case.

Has anyone tried this? I can't find anything in the manual saying explicitly not to do this. It's clearly dodgy though.
