Life finds a way

Every year I do the work of collecting seeds from my tomato plants, storing them, then planting them indoors the following year, growing them with a heat pad, and then finally putting them outside in the spring. It's a process of love that I typically really enjoy.

With my mom's passing last year I didn't even get around to tidying the old plants off the balcony until this spring. Didn't raise any new little tomatoes, decided it's not worth the effort and I'd take the year off gardening.

My husband and I finally did a tidy a few weeks ago, took out the old plants, gave the dirt a stir, and set it in the sun to dry out. Was still trying to figure out whether to toss it or store it for next year.

Low and behold, we have tomato plants this year anyway! There's some chili soil in there too so we'll see what happens.

Thanks little tomatoes for bringing me back to my hobby despite my efforts to be too sad for it.

Small Deathbed Gift - Affects Will?

A bit before my mother passed, she visited me in Europe, and had a few hundred leftover euros when she left. When she was in hospice, she gifted me her travel wallet with the leftovers to take back home. It was quite a sweet moment.

My sibling, the executor of her estate, managed to count how much money it was and is now planning on taking the amount out of the division of the (small) estate between the siblings.

Other siblings received gifts at this time too, but they weren't money so it's not a concern for the estate executor.

This feels petty and insane, but I'd love to know if it's even legal. Does it work like that? I'd love to have some source that says that gifts given before one passes don't count against one's share of the will.

I don't want to start a legal battle over like 200 euros, but on principal I don't want to just agree here.

I am hoping that just some proof that this is not how it works will be enough. I haven't been able to find something during my google search so far, and I would love any help!
