keylab 88 MK3 not recognized after setting the parameters for my Roland RPU-3

Hello, anyone ever had the same problem?

My keylab 88 MK3 is not recognized as a midi controller after setting the parameters for my Roland RPU-3.

I did exactly what the AI told me to do. Here is what I did:

**Here's how to set up the Roland RPU-3 with the Arturia KeyLab 88 Mk3:**

### Hardware Connection

The **Roland RPU-3** is a triple pedal unit with **three separate 1/4" TRS jacks** on the back (one for each pedal: Damper/Sustain, Sostenuto, and Soft).

The **KeyLab 88 Mk3** has **three pedal inputs** on the rear panel:

- **Sustain** (1/4")

- **Expression** (1/4")

- **Aux** (1/4")

**Connection steps:**

  1. Plug the **Damper (right pedal)** cable from the RPU-3 into the **Sustain** input on the KeyLab.

  2. Plug the **Sostenuto (middle pedal)** into the **Aux** input.

  3. Plug the **Soft (left pedal)** into the **Expression** input (or swap Aux/Expression depending on preference).

You will need **three standard 1/4" TS or TRS cables** (mono is usually fine).

### Configuration on KeyLab 88 Mk3

The Mk3 is very flexible — all three inputs can be assigned to almost any MIDI function.

#### Best Recommended Setup:

| RPU-3 Pedal | Connect to KeyLab Input | MIDI Assignment | Notes |

|-----------------|--------------------------|--------------------------|-------|

| Damper (Right) | **Sustain** | CC64 - Sustain | Standard |

| Sostenuto (Middle) | **Aux** | CC66 - Sostenuto | Standard |

| Soft (Left) | **Expression** | CC67 - Soft Pedal | Or CC11 Expression if you prefer volume control |

### How to Assign Pedals

  1. Press the **Settings** button on the KeyLab.

  2. Go to **User Program** mode (recommended) or use **MIDI Control Center** software (better for deep editing).

  3. Select the pedal input (Sustain / Expression / Aux).

  4. Assign the correct **CC number**:

    - Sustain → CC 64

    - Sostenuto → CC 66

    - Soft Pedal → CC 67

You can also calibrate the pedals directly on the keyboard (especially useful for half-damper on the sustain pedal).

### Half-Damper (Continuous Sustain)

The RPU-3 supports half-pedaling. On the KeyLab Mk3:

- Go into pedal calibration/settings.

- Set the Sustain input to recognize continuous values (not just on/off).

### Tips & Common Issues

- **Polarity**: Roland pedals are usually **negative polarity**. The KeyLab Mk3 handles this well, but you can reverse polarity in the settings if a pedal is inverted.

- **MkII vs Mk3**: The RPU-3 worked very well with the KeyLab 88 **MkII** according to many users. The Mk3 behaves similarly or better.

- For best results, use **MIDI Control Center** (Arturia's software) to fine-tune the assignments and save them as a User Program.

I did all of that, but now my keylab 88 mk3 is not recognized by my softsynths anymore even Arturias one, and MIDI control center is giving me a message saying ''Failed to open the device. Please verify the device is not in use by another application''.

But when I close that window I see the keyboard in device and it says connected in MCC. I deleted the drivers, the softwares, reinstalled everything. Did a factory reset in Global on the keylab. Nothing is helping.

Anyone has any tips to solve this please? Seriously I never had so much trouble to make a MIDI controller work to play softsynths. And btw, before touching the parameters to make my pedal unit work, I was able to play with any softsynth.

Thank you for your time have a good evening.
