is it odd to use wider planks just on stairs to avoid using multiple planks?

hi! we are currently in the process of discussing new floors. currently first floor and second floor have carpet (including stairs). we chose 7.5” engineered hardwood and the stairs are 11” wide. The nosing is 3.5" wide so we will need one full plank and one partial plank per step.

is that common? Or is it better to use wider plank just on the stairs (and stairs only) that is 9” wide which is the next size this flooring we chose comes in, in order to have single plank?

would love to know from experience whether you’re a designer, contractor or homeowner on what theyve seen in order to create timeless home. Thank you!
