Pushing through pain at 9 weeks post op…

Where is/was everyone else with stairs at 9 weeks post op? I’m working on pt and step ups every day, but anything more than about 4 inches still causes a sharp twinge right on my kneecap. My yard has a sloped wall I can use to gradually increase the size of the step, but I’m not sure if I should push through the pain or if that means I’m not ready for bigger steps. My physical therapist has told me in the past not to push through sharp pain, but that was closer to the surgery and I feel like I should be able to take bigger steps than I am now. I can do the elliptical machine forward with no pain, but attempting to pedal backwards gets me the same painful twinge, not excruciating but sharp.

What do we think, push through and take bigger steps that hurt a little, or stick to small ones that don’t hurt? My progress has been steady other than this where I feel it’s been the same for weeks
