My grades don't matter. So why should I care?
Hello. For context, I go to a very prestigious high school. In my country, there are no GPAs or anything like it. And the college I wanna go to only has an entrance exam that I am studying for weekly, even if I'm a year early. I'm also getting my certificates-English and possibly German, going to a part time job, and doing my driver's licence.
I try only in the subjects that I need, or find fun. (My native language, English, social studies, biology and history)
Some people do try, because their grades are important for them to get into college, but my college won't even look at them. So why should I try? Please, give me a reason to do so, because I genuinely see no reason why, as long as I pass with semi-decent grades.
My parents support me, but sometimes, I feel like I'm somehow less important or "smart" just because I focus on what's important to me. My mom just said "You don't try at all, do you?" And I was pretty hurt. I replied logically, and reminded her what I do, that I'm not lazy, and that I'm not failing either.
I just don't see any reason to do stuff that won't benefit me in the long run, when I can use my time doing things that will make my life better.
