Concrete lintels - 60' bungalow

Hi all. UK - bungalow house from 1960 with huge concrete lintel above the front and back door. This is cavity wall structure, and lintel is bridging it all. For once, this is huge heat loss for the house, secondary I want to replace the door, and the size would have to be only 195cm high. I am thinking about replacing the concrete lintel with a metal beam or something else, as long as it would be 6 inch high instead of 20". What are your thoughts? Doable? It would make door to come close to soffits, but they will be opening inwards, so it isn't a problem, apart from some visual effect.
