Why are there so many abandoned apartment buildings at the corner of Negley and Rural St in East Liberty/Highland Park?
Was just on a walk today and looking closely at the 4-5 larger apartment buildings on the corner of N Negley and Rural St that are abandoned. The two older buildings look like they’re still structurally sound, and the postmodern ones look ok.
I was wondering if there’s a reason why an entire block has just sat abandoned for so long? Were they all managed by a company that went under? Are the buildings on top of a sinkhole?
Obviously Pittsburgh has a lot of abandoned housing, but this one has always stuck out to me because they’re on a main thoroughfare in a pretty desirable area. And it’s an entire block! And those two older buildings are so beautiful! So I wonder if anyone has the 411
