Can anyone help with my baby Japanese red maple?

I am in northwest Arkansas, and this tree was just fine just a few days ago. I accidentally scratched it with a fingernail getting a couple leaves off the bottom so it shows bright green, which is good. What would cause it to just shrivel up?

Hi, I have noticed in the last few years, that a lot of the trees I am buying are coming in grow bags that I am supposed to plant. Is this really a good idea? I have gotten trees from Sooner, Fast Growing Trees, and now Gurney's that came in these "plantable" grow bags. Is there a community opinion on this? So far I have been cutting the bags off before planting, but if there is a consensus that the bags are ok, I will plant the next one in its grow bag.
